The Second issue, May, 2009
Dear Friends,
It gives me the greatest pleasure to write the Second newsletter for our association.
Our task is to provide basic information about the important events & to present your views & the current mutual cooperation with other societies.
According to the ASAMI Board decision in Kyoto and Saint Petersburg the 6th meeting had been transferred to Cairo (As Brasil excused from organization the meeting)
The Scientific committee is almost complete and comprises most ASAMI presidents and many pioneers in the field of External fixation & Reconstruction.
Critical voices are more than welcome in this forum.

1- Message from the president:
Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,
It is a great honor for me to welcome you as the President of ASAMI International and invite you to take part at 6th Meeting which will be held in Cairo, Egypt. I welcome everyone who wants to learn Ilizarov method, who has experience in Ilizarov method application and who has new ideas of its application. On this occasion I would like to pay obeisance to medical society and all people of Egypt.
Over the course of history Egypt greatly
influenced on culture and medicine development all over the world. And it’s very
pleasant for us to know that nowadays Egyptian orthopedists study the method of
Russian orthopaedic surgeon Ilizarov and spread it all over the world.
It may safely be said that method from Russia won supporters throughout the
world. Constructive possibilities of Ilizarov frame predetermined effective ways
and methods of treatment. Ilizarov method gave an impulse to different external
fixators development in the world but the concept of their work is based on
regularities opened by Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov. Today Ilizarov method is
applied in angiology, neurosurgery, oncology, dentistry, arthrology etc. It
proves that transosseous osteosynthesis method is inexhaustible.
I am sure that 6th International ASAMI Meeting as well as all previous Meetings will be remarkable historic event for medical society as it will be held on the eve of 90th anniversary of method CREATOR, Russian academician G.A. Ilizarov and 60th anniversary of method. These great events will be celebrated in 2010. I wish you active participation in the forum, new experience, and friendly contacts.
Only together we can overcome difficulties on the way to wonderful future! I wish you health, success, creation, belief and hope!

2- Welcome Message for the 6th International ASAMI meeting in Cairo
Dear ASAMI Members
Dear Colleagues,
Cairo has long been the center of the region's cultural and artistic life, and has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the area earning the name of the "Hollywood of the East" there are also many ancient temples, tombs, old Christian Churches, Muslim monuments and the Egyptian Antiquities museum.
The congress venue is Mena House Obroi, overlooking the famous Giza Pyramids. It looks like a boat which sails between the present and the past, between the human and the stones and finally between the ancient and the modern. From Cairo, you can easily visit the Southern city of Luxor which contains numerous ancient artifacts, such as the Karnak temple and the valley of kings, also you can visit Alexandria, Hurgada and Sharm El-Shiekh.
The scientific program will contain many papers regarding Ilizarov method, External Fixation and Limb Reconstruction. There will be also symposia about the recent advances in the biology of Bone reconstruction.
You are all welcome to our meeting .

3 - Suggestions & recommendations:
· The Active Membership:
We think it is the time to open the door for active membership from qualified individuals from allover the world. Please, send me your suggestions regarding the possible requirements.
· Enlarging the Association:
We are looking forwards to double the number of countries sharing in Association. We ask for your expert contribution in developing local societies in new countries. We have got applications from 5 countries: Switzerland Australia, Iran, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. We will complete the application to be part of the agenda of the Board meeting in Cairo 2010.
· Awards & Scholarships :
Teaching is a major task of our Association & we have to help the young surgeons to participate in our meetings. We encourage your contribution whether personal or institutional to finance awards or Scholarships. Fore example, there will be awards for exemption from the registration fees of the next meeting. I declare 5 awards for exemption from registration for the young researchers in the next meeting in Cairo.
